Dan & Annie's
Summer Adventure 2006

July 22nd, 2006:

We crossed from Montana into Idaho about 50 miles south of the Canadian border.

At one point we were only ten miles of so from Washington state, so we

made a side trip over just so we could add another state to our map.

Back in Idaho, traveling from north to south was slow and monotonous, with landscape like this:

Central Idaho is a land of rivers and very few roads.

At one point, if you drew a line straight across from Oregon to Montana,

a distance of more than 100 miles, you would cross only one paved road.

We followed the Salmon River, famous for its rafting and majestic canyons, for many miles:

At the headwaters of the Salmon in south-central Idaho, we finally

climbed out of the canyons and emerged onto the high plains.

Here we were suddenly surrounded by the majestic Sawtooth Mountain range:

The road here wound through some very high passes:

With awesome views:

And that’s where we are stopped right now. We are planning a hike for tomorrow, hoping to climb to over 9,000 feet.

That’s all for now,
